NEPA Craft Beer

4 New NEPA Beers Debut This Week

The beer scene in the 570 is buzzing…

If you’re in the mood for a new brew, this is a pretty good time to be a beer drinker in Northeast Pennsylvania. I scoured the social media pages of over a dozen breweries located within the 570 area code and found four new beer releases happening this week.

I hope you’re thirsty.

Coal Dust Blonde Stout (Groove Brewing)

Coal Dust Blonde Stout from Groove Brewing (Scranton, PA)

This beer started off as a joke. This past April Fools Day, Groove Brewing (Scranton, PA) teased that it would be brewing a beer infused with coal dust. That sounds awful, but a bunch of people hit the brewery up asking for them to craft a coal-themed brew.

Enter Coal Dust Blonde Stout. Groove patterned with Coal Creative (a local marketing agency) and came up with this “rich Summer stout.” Proceeds from the sale of the beer will benefit the Eastern Pennsylvania Coalition for Abandoned Mine Reclamation (EPCAMR), a local non-profit organization that helps clean up abandoned mines.

Cream Ale (Last Minute Brewing)

Cream Ale from Last Minute Brewing (Scott Township, PA)

According to Last Minute Brewing (Scott Township, PA), Cream Ale is “so smooth you’d think it was a lager.” The brew comes in at mild-mannered 4.7% ABV and is available on draft and in cans at Last Minute’s taproom. This has all the makings of a great Summer session beer, so I recommend picking up several cans to go so that you can properly stock your beer refrigerator or cooler.

As an added bonus, if you stop in to Last Minute Brewing this Friday (6/27) or Saturday, there will be a food truck on site. What else do you need in life?

Outside Bones Triple IPA (Blind Cat Brewing)

Outside Bones Triple IPA from Blind Cat Brewing (Pittston, PA)

If you enjoy tasty beers that will knock you on your ass, the nice people at Blind Cat Brewing (Pittston, PA) have you covered. Outside Bones Triple IPA comes in at a hefty 10% ABV. The beer is brewed with El Dorado, Nelson Sauvin, and Sabro hops. According to Blind Cat’s Facebook post, the flavor profiles feature grapefruit, white wine, and peach.

I should also point out that Outside Bones Triple IPA was released last week, but since I didn’t see it until this week, I’m including it here. It’s my damn website and I’ll do as I please.

Valley Light Lager (Susquehanna Brewing Company)

Valley Light Lager from Susquehanna Brewing Company (Pittston, PA)

Susquehanna Brewing (Pittston, PA) will be releasing its Valley Light Lager on Friday (6/27). At 4.2% ABV, this is a beer made for day drinking. And although I haven’t tried it yet, I’m willing to bet an amount of money that matters to me that it’s better than anything from Budweiser, Miller, or Coors.

SBC is offering $3 pours of Valley Light Lager all day on Friday, so I strongly suggest you call off work that day and plan to spend it at the brewery.
