Asian Fusion Beer Dinner – Wallenpaupack Brewing

This sounds like it could be a good time…

Wallenpaupack Brewing has announced an Asian Fusion Beer Dinner, to be hosted at their Hawley, PA brewery on January 31st. This is a four-course dinner that features beer pairings with each dish for the cost of $50/person or $95/couple. For those looking to make a weekend out of it, there are also packages that include a cabin rental and a bunch of other stuff for $550.

For those not familiar, Wallenpaupack Brewing is arguably the most successful and most popular brewery in the NEPA area (though Susquehanna Brewing would probably like to have a word). Their beers have won multiple local and national awards and their Hawley, PA taproom is easily one of the finest such establishments in the Northeast.

Let’s talk about this Asian Fusion Beer Dinner…

As you can see from the full menu above, this event is action-packed with an intriguing combination of dishes and five of Wallenpaupack’s beers. This being a fusion-style meal, the ingredients list is heavily influenced by Japan, though other aspects are a mix of cuisines and preparation styles from all over the map.

The dinner is comprised of an amuse (appetizer) dish, followed by three courses that range from soup and salad to stir fry and sushi. Combine that with five different beers and it’s hard to argue that the $50 price tag isn’t fairly priced.

To quote from Wallenpaupack Brewing’s Instagram post:

The dish that stands out to me is the Char Sui Chow Mein (second course) which is paired with Wallenpaupack’s Honey Gochugaru Porter. There’s a lot going on with this dish and the addition of the porter sounds like something that I’d be down for trying.

All in all, I like what Wallenpaupack Brewing is attempting here with its Asian Fusion Beer Dinner. I wouldn’t say that anything on the menu is super-exciting to me (I have mixed feelings about any cuisine described as “fusion”), but the whole of it seems like something that could be fun and maybe a bit out of left field.
