Looking for something different to do this Parade Day?
The Scranton St. Patrick’s Day Parade is easily one of the biggest party days in the 570. It also can be fairly expensive and bar hopping requires standing in long lines and even longer waits to order a drink. A few bars in the North Pocono area have teamed up to offer an alternative.

The St. Paddy’s Bar Crawl will take place on March 8th. Four bars – Pappy’s (Springbrook), VFW Post 5207 (Daleville), Slingshots (Moscow), and The Y-Knot (Elmhurst) – have chipped in to sponsor a school bus to taxi party people around the North Pocono area, shuttling them between the four bars from 12pm to 9pm.
And, yes, you can drink on the bus.
A few things you should know:
- The school bus will run all day, stopping at each of the bars to load people up and drop them off.
- The bus is free. It will ferry you between the bars at no cost.
- You can start at any bar you choose and then, at your leisure, jump on the bus and hit up another bar. And you can do that all day.
- None of the bars are charging a cover.
- The bars will also have food for sale.
I should also point out that The Y-Knot is located only about 10 minutes away from Scranton (the other bars are a bit further away). This makes the North Pocono St. Paddy’s Day Bar Crawl an easy alternative for anyone who is looking to do Parade Day without having to deal with the downtown Scranton crowds and expenses.

I’ve done both Parade Day in Scranton and the bar crawl and I’ve had a fantastic time at both. There are some important distinctions between the two. Specifically:
- Scranton Parade Day is much bigger than the North Pocono Bar Crawl. Depending if you prefer a large downtown crowd or a smaller, more laidback vibe, you may find one or the other more your speed.
- Scranton Parade Day is more expensive. It just is. Almost every bar will charge a cover to get in and you’ll pay more for drinks.
- The school bus is a vibe. It essentially turns into a party bus for the day, with people running out of a bar, drinks in hand, and hopping on the bus. It can get a wee bit rowdy by the end of the night.
It’s also worth mentioning that, if you are so inclined, the two events are close enough that you could do both. That’s probably a bad idea but you do you.
