The new IPA is a collaboration with FUZZ 96.1 FM…
Mutant Brewing (Scranton, PA) is preparing to release a new beer that tastes like a peach and is inspired by alternative rock. Peachfuzz is the name of the new brew, a collaboration between the brewery and FUZZ 96.1 FM, the Scranton-based alt rock station. The beer is set to make its world debut this Saturday (4/19) at Mutant Brewing’s downtown taproom.

Peachfuzz comes encased in 16oz aluminum cans, wrapped in artwork from Chris Gipple. The beer weighs in at a slightly strong 6.8% ABV, which is about standard for IPA drinkers. On its Facebook page, Mutant Brewing describes the beer like this:
“Introducing Peachfuzz – A juicy 6.8% peach hazy IPA brewed by Mutant Brewing in collaboration with FUZZ 96.1, where craft beer meets alternative radio. This bold, refreshing brew blends sweet peach and citrus hops in a smooth yet edgy flavor, perfectly echoing NEPA’s thriving alt-rock scene. More than a beer, it’s a movement – celebrating local music, community, and creativity with every sip.”
For anyone not familiar, FUZZ 96.1 FM is a radio station based in downtown Scranton, just a few blocks from Mutant Brewing. If a beer brewer doing a collab with a radio station strikes you as odd, it shouldn’t. Remember that Susquehanna Brewing Company (Pittston, PA) partnered with Froggy 101, another local NEPA radio station, last year for its very popular Pond Water release.
That Pond Water partnership helped raise money for a local veterans charity. And while Peachfuzz isn’t a fundraising vehicle, it is being marketed as a celebration of the local Northeast Pennsylvania music scene. Both things are noble ventures, so as far as I’m concerned, let’s keep the radio station/beer brewer collaborations coming.
But let’s be honest; Very few people are drinking any beer because of what it “celebrates” or because a certain percentage of sales is donated to a charity. The most critical aspect of the brew is how it tastes. Fortunately, Mutant Brewing isn’t making us wait long for that.
In less than two days (as of this writing), Peachfuzz will be debuted at the Mutant’s downtown Scranton brewery. The brewery is hosting a release party for the new beer on Saturday (4/19) from 12pm to 4pm. If you stop in during that time, you’ll be able to drink Peachfuzz out of the tap, pick up four-packs of cans for the discounted price of $9.61, and order an award-winning smash burger for the same price.
