The iconic Scranton seafood restaurant just unveiled an updated menu…
If you’ve lived in Northeast Pennsylvania for any length of time, it’s very likely you’ve had at least one meal at Cooper’s Seafood House in Scranton. The place has been serving up some of the best seafood in the area going back to 1948 and it remains a beloved NEPA institution. All of that being said, the restaurant just announced new specials and that’s what I’m here to talk about today.
As you can see from the just-unveiled specials menu above, the number of new additions is significant. More than that, and in true Cooper’s form, many of these items aren’t likely to be found at most other places within easy driving distance. I’ve just laid eyes on this new menu myself and I have to say that I’m both impressed and extremely intrigued.
Right off the bat, the entire Appetizers section sounds incredible. While we’re just in the opening days of crawfish season (connoisseurs will tell you the best time to order them is between March and June), I’m not going to hesitate to order at least two pounds of the Steamed Whole Crawfish. And, yes, I’m going to suck the heads.
And while it might be overkill to order the Alligator Bites and the Louisiana Alligator Soup together…I’m probably gonna do it. I’ve had alligator at Cooper’s a few times before and, in every instance, I thoroughly enjoyed every morsel. So regardless if it’s fried or in a soup, I’m having it.

The appetizer that I’m most interested in is the Crab and Shrimp Chipotle Seafood Bisque. The bisque soups at Cooper’s are easily among the best in the entire area and if I had to compose my deathbed, last-meal-of-my-life menu, Cooper’s Crab bisque would be on it. I’ve never had this particular version, but if it’s anything like the ones that I have, I have no doubt I’m going to love it.
Moving down to the Features, the Swamp To Table Platter is what my eyes keep drifting back to and locking in on. For $35, you get a blackened catfish, an order of frog legs, a bowl of gator soup, and Gulf shrimp creole over a bed of rice. Will I have room for that after having already devoured nearly the entire damn Appetizer menu? Probably not but I’m going to give it a go.
If I were going to order one of the specials, it would be the Vic’s Old Fashioned. Regretfully, I’ll have to pass on that, at least until next month. I’m doing Dry January and I’ve got 22 days, 11 hours, and 9 minutes (not that I’m counting…) until I can start imbibing again.
What do you think?
If the moon and stars align, I’ll hopefully get to Cooper’s later this weekend and will get up close and personal with their new specials.
What are your thoughts on all of this? Any particular item from the updated Cooper’s Seafood House specials that stands out to you? Tell us all about it in the comments section below.
