Summit House is Back at Camelback!

Because the food and booze are the best parts of skiing…

The Summit House restaurant (Tannersville) is open again, bitches! For those not familiar, this place is located on top of the Camelback ski resort. In fact, the place is a ski-in/ski-out establishment, meaning that unless you’re a skier or snowboarder, you probably won’t be eating or drinking there.

So even if you aren’t into Winter sports, maybe it’s worth taking a lesson to check the place out?

I suppose that depends on your tolerance for wind and cold, physical fitness, and just general feelings about snow. However, if you are into or at least okay with those things, the newly reopened Summit House could be worth some time and attention.

To quote from a press release that wasn’t sent to me but I found anyway (it’s okay, I’m not bitter):

“We’re excited to unveil our reimagined Summit House, the ideal on-mountain dining destination for lunch and après offerings,” said Camelback Resort Managing Director David Makarsky. “The restaurant’s exclusive ski-in, ski-out access gives our guests a bird’s-eye-view of the entire resort while enjoying delicious food, drinks and great company.”

Located at the top of Camelback Mountain, Summit House offers unbeatable ski-in, ski-out convenience with breathtaking views of the Pocono Mountains. Warm up with delicious favorites such as grilled cheese and tomato soup, crispy siracha chicken quesadillas, beef cilantro empanadas, chicken tenders and fries, house made chili, jumbo Bavarian pretzels, and a selection of specialty fries – Maryland, truffle, sea salt, and cheese – for the ultimate après comfort food.

I am not a skier. However, I have learned that beer and things like french fries and grilled cheese sandwiches taste better at a ski lodge. You’re up on a mountain, everyone is wearing snow pants and boots, and there’s usually a fireplace. It’s just a whole different vibe than you get from most other similar establishments located below a mountain snowline.

I also must confess that I’ve never been to the original Summit House, so I don’t have any reference to compare this new one. However, this new version does sound nice and if I were ever to feel the urge to pound some beers while watching other people do stuff outside in the cold, I wouldn’t mind giving this place a try.
