Maiolatesi Winery Announces Lenten Specials

The popular Olyphant winery offers up Lenten-friendly dishes…

For anyone who’s given up meat for Lent but still wants some tasty dishes and some great local wine, the nice people at Maiolatesi Wine Cellars (Olyphant, PA) have you covered. The winery has debuted a special Lent menu that features five meatless offerings. And even if you haven’t given up meat, who cares? There’s probably something on this menu that you’ll want to try.

In looking at this, I’d be down for ordering the whole damn menu. Perhaps that’s a bit too glutinous for Lent, but I’m not Catholic and also I don’t care. Having eaten many meals at Maiolatesi Wine Cellars, I know all the food is awesome. And the wine is great, too.

If I had to pick one item that sounds the most intriguing to me, it’d have to be the Shrimp Fra Diavlo Pizza. The combination of shrimp and hot peppers on a pizza sounds absolutely fantastic and isn’t something I’ve seen offered anywhere else. It also sounds like it would pair perfectly with a bottle of red wine, and I need to have this in my life.

Both of the appetizers also sound amazing. I will never pass up a full-size shrimp po boy and that rule also applies to the smaller Shrimp Po Boy Sliders. As for the Crab Stuffed Mushrooms, these have always been one of my favorite appetizers, and getting eight of them for $15 sounds reasonable to me.

I’m not someone who ever gets overly excited about a salad, but the Bibb Salad sounds like something I wouldn’t hate. Anything that boasts candied pecans and crumbled goat cheese as ingredients has both my attention and respect.

After having eaten all of that, will I still have room for the Mr White Pizza? Probably not, but if I let everything settle and have another glass or two of vino, I can probably get at least a slice or two down.

I should also mention that the Maiolatesi Wine Cellars Lent menu is also available at the Susquehanna Brewing Company tap room (located downstairs from the winery), for anyone who’d rather pair their food with a pint.
