German Night at Bingham’s Restaurant

Home-cooked German food, once a year…

A few days ago, I visited Bingham’s Restaurant (Kingsley) for the annual “German Night”. For the past several years, the popular home-style eatery has offered this special meal. In years past, the event was spread over a few nights. This year, however, it was one night only.

I’ve attended Bingham’s German Night for a few years and the menu is the same each year. Keeping with tradition, the German Night 2025 menu looked like this:

  • Marinated Cucumber Salad in a Dill Sourcream Dressing
  • Bratwurst and Sauerkraut
  • Sauerbraten
  • Jagerschnitzel
  • A side of German Potatoes and Red Cabbage
  • Apple Strudel
  • A basket of sliced, homemade Pumpernickel and Rye Bread

The meal is prix fixe, costing a very reasonable $19.98/per person. The dishes are brought out by Bingham’s servers in stages. First comes the Cucumber Salad and bread basket. These are followed by the Bratwurst and Sauerkraut. Then comes the entre, a plate of Jagerschnitzel and Sauerbraten along with the German Potatoes and Red Cabbage sides. The meal is capped off with a serving of homemade Apple Strudel.

Bingham’s German Night | How was it?

It was good.

Despite this menu only being a once-a-year thing at Bingham’s, I thought the kitchen staff did an admirable job with all the dishes. The Sauerbraten, the national dish of Germany, was probably the highlight of the meal for me. The roast was tender enough to pull apart with a fork and the gravy delivered the perfect hit of richness to the incredibly tender meat.

The Apple Strudel was a pure delight. This shouldn’t be a surprise, as Bingham’s is probably best known for their assortment of baked goods. The dessert was the perfect counter to all of the rich German food. Even though I tore through each of the dishes that preceded it and was close to hitting maximum capacity in my stomach, I had zero trouble making short work of the Strudel.

For me, the Bratwurst fell flat. While it was good enough, I would have preferred to have the meat served with some char and crisp. It wasn’t and, served on a small plate with a helping of Sauerkraut, it felt a bit like an afterthought.

To be clear, though, for $20 this meal was worth every penny and more. The dining room was mostly full and, from what I could tell, German Night was a hit. The wait staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, no small feat considering how busy the place was all night. I enjoyed the meal and, assuming Bingham’s does it again next year, I’ll probably return in 2026 to do it all over again.
