This is one of the most popular NEPA wine events of the year…
The annual Winter Wine Under The Waves shindig is almost upon us, people. For those not familiar, this event benefits Scranton’s Electic City Aquarium and Reptile Den, with some of the proceeds being donated to wildlife conservation efforts. This year, the popular wine-themed soiree will be held at the Aquarium (located in the Marketplace at Steamtown) on Saturday, January 18th from 7pm to 10pm.
Tickets are on sale now for a cost of $40 per person.
Speaking from experience, if you’re interested in attending, I strongly suggest that you go online and grab your tickets now. In past years, the event has sold out.
I’ve attended the Winter Wine Under The Waves event in previous years and there’s a strong likelihood I’ll be in attendance this year, too. Situated where it is on the calendar, Wine Under The Waves is one of the first good reasons to get out of your house of the year. And did I mention there’s wine?
This year’s lineup of local wineries includes Lucci Family Wines, King Cole Winery, Cellar Beast Winehouse, Blue Mountain Winery, Talerico’s Tropical Winery, and Stone Lake Winery. All of them will be offering free samples of their vino and most also usually have wine for sale by the glass or the bottle.
In addition to the wineries, there will also be a variety of other food, artisan, and craft vendors on site. For this event, all of the vendors setup in the hallway of the Marketplace at Steamtown, right outside the entrance to the aquarium. You can browse them all and then, if you choose (and I highly suggest it), take a stroll – wine glass in hand – through the aquarium.
Winter Wine Under The Waves is easily one of the most photogenic wine events you’ll ever attend. You can get some great selfies and group pics inside of the aquarium, with the huge tanks full of exotic fish and reptiles and a stunning background.
Winter Wine Under the Waves 2025 | What to know…
If you are going to be attending Winter Wine Under the Waves for the first time, here are a few things to keep in mind:
- There’s lots of parking. You can park in the Marketplace at Steamtown garage. However, if you plan on sampling the wine, you should probably take an Uber.
- You don’t need to dress up…but lots of people do. This isn’t a “fancy” wine event, but in the years that I’ve attended, people tend to dress up a little bit. But nobody will think any less of you for wearing jeans.
- How many people will be attending? Probably hundreds, at least. As I mentioned, this event is extremely popular and it does draw a big crowd.
- Like any wine festival, lines for samples of wine can be long. You might want to start off by buying a bottle, finding a place to sit with your crew, and have a glass or two before making your way into the aquarium. As the night goes on, the lines for the vendors tend to get shorter.
